Price: $69.95 is a bit high in my opinion. $55 would have been a fair price

Size: I like the clip of this vs. the Clip 2 much better. Portability is still amazing. Perfect for most situations!

Sound Quality: For the size it’s as good as it gets. We tended to use our older Clip 2 in a small group at lower volume, i.e. campfires, the beach, on the patio, in the hot tub. So far the Clip 4 seems like a huge upgrade in the low end over the Clip 2. It’s more about the portability and great battery life on these speakers but I’ve been impressed with how good these sound.

Bluetooth & Controls: The Clip 2 was awful in both of these categories and is the primary reason I decided to upgrade. Now when we’re near the water I don’t have to take out my phone to pause the music or skip a song. Also make sure to start buying devices with bluetooth 5 on them. This one has it and there’s no lag when playing videos, devices are easy to connect and the range is best I’ve noticed on any bluetooth device.

Amazing if you’re upgrading from a Clip 2!

The best clip version by far!!!

    Pros:

    Great sounding 5 watt speaker!
    Superb battery life!!
    Very stylish design!
    Durable clip!
    Type C Charging!
    Charges quick!
    Lightweight and portable!

    Cons:

    None… really

    Overall:

Very satisfied with my new JBL Clip 4! A little pricey but worth it to add to my collection! With a little tweak with the equalizer and WOW!! This speaker bumps and thumps!! Highly recommend this speaker if you like the JBL GO 3. Clip 4 actually sounds louder and better BASS!

The clip 4 is finally here. The jbl clip 3 was a big hit, I’m a fan and owner of one. Very sturdy, it took a lot and never failed me. But that pesky unreliable clip/carabiner gave me issues and ultimately failed and fell off. Big pain in the rear since it would no longer reliably stay hooked to anything but still worked otherwise.

So I had to get the clip 4 and maybe donate my old 3. So here are some key things I notice side by side.

    1. Size and weight aren’t much different between the two
    2. Power and Bluetooth button have switched sides.
    3. On the 3 the buttons were indented on the four there is something on top of the fabric to press these buttons.
    4. No more charger headphone jack door on the 4 just a usb type c at the bottom. No more micro usb!
    5. The pad on the back has been redesigned to fabric with rubber strips (more on that later)
    6. Clip/carabiner/hook has been redesigned, more usable in my opinion.
    7. Yes that janky pin has been addressed, check photos.
    8. Battery specs and 10 hour rating unchanged from 3 to 4.
    9. Bluetooth now 5.1
    10. Clip 3 just over 3 watts output, jbl claims the 4 is now 5 watts max.

So yes a lot has changed but it’s still the clip you know and love. Another big change is the speaker and passive radiator you can’t see. So the clip 3 has a tiny speaker and an oval shaped passive radiator at the front. But now it seems to me there is a big change. The clip 4 still has a speaker at the front (40mm according to jbl) but now has a (most likely) larger passive radiator at the back. That seems to be the reason for the cloth and striped rubber at the back. I can feel some air pressure coming from the back at high volume.

Holding both, one in each hand you will struggle to notice a difference in weight. Now while size hasn’t changed much, the shape has. In my opinion the wider lower profile of the clip 4 will be more useful in the real world. With my old clip 3 there were situations where the tall but slightly narrower clip was a no go but still so close to hooking up to a desired spot.

The sound. Can’t hear a noticeable difference in mids and highs, but the bottom end seems to go just a touch lower, it’s a bit fuller, a little more chesty in the vocals like say in a podcast. When cranked up top 80 plus percent vollume it’s just a tad buzzy, just a bit of breakup that I don’t hear as much on the 3. I rarely go to that make levels so not an issue for me.

That janky pin has been addressed. Check the photos. The pin is barely visible and the front grille is designed to make that less of a weak point. Will it hold up over time?

Haven’t noticed a difference battery level yet because I’m unemployed, but soon expect to be back to work and the new jbl clip will get its daily workout. The new clip 4 is ip67 so I expect it to be just as robust and a little tank just like the 3. The 3 met the pavement, floor, high and low pressure water, chemicals and soap and never had an issue. If there are any issues I will update this review. Please check my photos to get an idea of how the 4 stacks up to the 3.

Redesigned clip portion is more useable and should be more robust. Love the JBL clip 4

This little thing bumps! I had a big block portable speaker before and got tired of lugging it around when I went skating. Now I can just clip this onto my backpack and all my friends can hear the music even when I’m kinda far away from them. The only thing I don’t like is that when the speaker is at its highest volume and I press the volume up button just to make sure it’s at the highest level the music will cut out for a second. Kind of a weird feature but everything else about this speaker is 5 stars.

Got dang this is ugly. But it does sound and work great, if you don’t mind the look.

To JBL: Nobody wants your logo on their stuff!

  6. Jon49522 (verified owner)

I’ve owned the Clip 2 for years, and had been waiting for the 4, as I didn’t feel the 3 was a very compelling upgrade. Did some sound comparisons between the 2 & the 4, and I was completely blown away by the difference; I mean, I expected the 4 to sound better, but not *this* much better!

Bass actually thumps now; with the 2 you had to pretty much imagine where the bass lines were, because it certainly wasn’t playing them. Much louder max volume too; seems around 50-75% louder in my testing.

The buttons are much better on the 4 as well, though I wish the power button required a press and hold, as it’s easily bumped.

No microphone on the 4, which is a bit of a downgrade, as the 2 doubled as a decent speakerphone.

USB-C charging now; nice to slowly be able to whittle down those pesky Micro USB chargers.

All in all, if you need the clip functionality as I do (I like to clip it on my bike for some tunes while riding), it’s a great option. Possibly a bit overpriced, but it’s rather a unique offering.

  7. Travis (verified owner)

I wasn’t expecting much from this little speaker, but I was surprised by how loud it was and the great sound for its size. The small speaker I was using in my shower sounded horrible so that’s why I decided to give this a try. Sounds great. I also love that you can skip tracks with it without having to use phone. Just double clip the play button.

  8. Brian (verified owner)

Everything about this is great except there is no way to tell how much battery is left or fully charged. I’m still old school that I let items die before charging them again. But I also can see how much battery is available. I use this for snowboarding so if it dies in the begining/middle of the day, then I’m SOL. Obviously I make sure to fully charge the Clip before I go out, but what rechargeable item doesn’t show battery life? That’s the only flaw to this product. Great sound, durable, quick connect. рџ‘Ќ

This is a great little speaker that cranks! I currently do 11 hour shifts in a factory/warehouse setting. And while the JBL can’t quite play over the sounds of some of the massive overhead fans we have, it’s loud enough in most other respects. Not to mention durable!

Clip it to my shirt or lanyard and I’ve got tunes going throughout my entire 11 hour shift as long as I charge it a bit on my breaks. JBl makes quality products for sure!

  10. Steve Medley (verified owner)

Great speaker, honestly my only gripe is the buttons have such a hair trigger that when I have it clipped to a belt loop and it moves around even a little it will pause or even turn off as the buttons graze against my jeans, belt, etc.

  11. Michael Lackey (verified owner)

I ordered my first JBL Clip4 in January 2021. By the second week of February, it was just turning off every few minutes, even with a full charge. It was within the return window, so I returned it and Amazon replaced it. The second one worked for a bit longer, but started doing the exact same thing! This time, it was 3 days beyond the return window, so returning it AGAIN, wasn’t even an option.

So, even with a full charge, this speaker will randomly shut off completely while playing. Two separate units, same problem. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT WILL STOP WORKING IN 3-4 WEEKS.

I will never purchase another JBL product because of this complete lack of quality.

  12. Kevin Dent (verified owner)

A selling point for me is that the battery is supposed to last 10 hours. I am only getting about 5 from a brand new unit fully charged. In addition, the USB connector s some obscure size that does not work with any other cable. So if you don’t have the cable that comes with t, you can’t charge it. Grrr!

I had already thrown the box away, otherwise I would send it back.

  13. TheDude (verified owner)

FOR ITS SIZE, the bass is very impressive. It’s not going to rattle any windows, but the bass coming out of this thing is a lot better than I expected, I was expecting it to be tinny like most small speakers. I am pleasantly surprised, I highly recommend this speaker if you want decent bass AND your primary desire is to have a pocketable speaker, if you don’t care about it fitting in your pocket and want a lot of bass, get something else.

At first glance, you’ll find the instructions and a charging cord. I noticed quickly that this speaker has been upgraded to the USB-C charger which is a great improvement from the JBL Go 2. The overall body is very sturdy, making you feel more comfortable taking it along where ever. The clip is wide and would fit on most anything. It feels a lot more durable than my JBL Go 2. I love the blue color, it just looks Zen.

I thought the sound quality in my Go 2 was good but this Clip 4 blows it out of the water. The higher price tag made me question the purchase, especially with the Go 3 costing less but it is well worth it. Not only does it get super loud, the bass hits great. The ranges are on point and the overall sound is amazing for such a small speaker. My Go 2 stays at home as it doesn’t have as sturdy of a feel to it but this Clip 4 will go everywhere with me.

If you are looking to upgrade from the Go 2, this is definitely the way to go. I debated between the Go 3 and Clip 4 but in the end I decided to spend the extra money. I would love to compare the Go 3 and Clip 4 but it isn’t in the budget. I can say with certainty, you won’t be disappointed in the Clip 4.

Update 4/16: I still love this speaker, it’s a favorite. I did purchase a JBL Go 3 to compare. I had to know if the price difference was worth it. Had I gotten the Go 3 first, I probably wouldn’t have ever gotten the Clip 4. I say this because the Go 3 has a very good sound. It’s definitely an upgrade from the Go 2. It’s much more crisp. However, I’m glad I did purchase the Clip 4 first. The sound quality is on par with the Go 3 but the bass is overall better in the Clip 4. Both are great speakers but I will choose the Clip 4 over the Go 3 any day.

I love just about everything about this little speaker! I use it all the time even when I am inside my house, but don’t need a larger, louder speaker. Even then, this speaker still gets pretty loud. Of course, if you are outside where there is more noise, others around you may not be able to hear it as well as they get further from you. It will otherwise be loud for you still. The battery lasts a while and charges quickly. And last but not least, the clip! Easy to use and the speaker overall is lighter when worn on a belt or fanny pack than I thought it was going to be. When outisde, I use it while hiking and roller skating and I can move and spin around without really noticing there is a speaker clipped to me. I am super happy I decided to go with this one!

  16. Amazon Customer (verified owner)

I use it literally every day. I clip it onto my belt loop while I’m at work, and I take it to the pool and river with me, since it’s waterproof.

I had the Clip 3 before, and this speaker is a significant sound improvement. I wasn’t sure how I’d like the carabineer, but it turns out it funtions better than the Clip 3 as far as ease of use and not getting snagged on stuff.

Now my co-workers wanna get one. It’s a great little speaker.

  17. Cam (verified owner)

High quality sound for a great price! JBL is a great company and for work I only set up with their equipment. I wanted something that I could have as a portable speaker since my work is on my feet going from place to place. This speaker packs so much sound. Almost blew my ears out the first time I used it. It also is waterproof so if your the person to sing in the shower, this speaker will turn that mediocre shower into a concert.

  18. AdrianOviedo (verified owner)

Sound is slightly better than Clip 3. I bought this to replace my old Clip 3 which was still working just. Design flaws on the Clip4 IMO, are: Power and Bluetooth buttons, play and volume buttons protrude rather than recessed, this means the unit powers off frequently and the “search for device” Bluetooth button is activated randomly when jostling around. Same goes for the play and volume buttons. Why!? Save your money if you like the Clip3 you will hate Clip 4. Oh and no mic, which means you can’t answer calls. Again, why?!

  19. Buyer (verified owner)

I’m a reluctant audiophile that once worked in the field and so now I simply know and appreciate Good Sound – and this speaker delivers Good Sound! I bought it to play music while traveling, especially in hotel rooms, on a boat, etc. The sound quality and power of this speaker are pretty impressive for the size and price point. I decided to spend the extra bucks on the Clip4 over the Clip3 because of the longer battery life.

  20. T. Olsen (verified owner)

The bass is cranked and any speech sounds like a deep-voiced person talking through a door. It must be tuned for bass heavy music. if you listen to podcasts, radio, audiobooks, etc. it sounds pretty bad. I’ve resorted to using my phone which is quieter but much clearer. I don’t have my Clip 3 anymore for a side-by-side comparison, but IIRC the 3 was a little bass heavy but not hard to understand and muffled like this.

Support says get an app to turn down the bass for when you’re using this speaker. Bad solution if you’re using multiple devices or switch bluetooth speakers.

It also doesn’t have a mic anymore (the Clip 3 did).

It’s unfortunate because other than that it’s a great little speaker. Good build quality and battery life. Loud for its size.

  21. Kerrnel (verified owner)

Previously had the Clip 2 for a few years until battery stopped charging. Used it primarily on the golf course for an entire 4-5h round with no issues probably 20-30 times a year for 3 years. Decent longevity. Sound quality was pretty good.

Bought a Clip 3 for my cousin a year ago, sound didnt seem to differ, bass was a little weak IMO. He’s still using his, also on the golf course.

Replaced my Clip 2 with this Clip 4 and in every way it has been far superior! The bass and dynamic sound is very noticeable, even compared with the Clip 3. Music is just very rich, and pretty comparable to Bose portables.

The clip on this Clip 4 is bigger and easier to clip onto whatever you might need – I clip it often to the cart handles that are mounted to the golf cart roof – I could not do that with either the Clip 2 or 3.

Its weightier and feels more solid than previous versions as well. Glad i didnt cheap out and go with the Clip 3. Extremely happy with my Clip 4!

  22. Alejandro Cantu (verified owner)

I am true fan JBL and have all sort of JBL Speakers, when the clip 4 came out I was so excited!!

I use my speaker when I play Golf, before this speaker I had the Clip 3 which work perfectly and never had any battery issues. For those who don’t golf here, basically you need to speaker to work at max volume for at least 5 to 6 hours, this was not an issue with the Clip 3. I would last a round at max volume and I loved it!

This speaker only gets me around 4 hours of battery life. That means that the speaker will die out out me when I am around the 15th hole, so basically no music at the end.

If you need the speaker to last more than 4 hours at max volume, DONT BUY THIS! Go for the Clip 3.

     Update for battery life:
I have not used it for more than 3-4 hours at a time so I can’t say anything about the 10 hour claimed battery life. What I can say it has lasted several 6-8 hour combined uses and the power light was still solid so it’s possible to last longer before charging. I also have only had the volume at 50% while listening.

I own 2 Altec Lansing H2O ( for stereo sound), Clarion (FM, TF Card) and ION Clip. Even with the Clarion at 8W and stereo Altec Lansing, the JBL knocks rings around both in sound clarity, bass and volume. The ION Clip is more compact but definitely is no match for the JBL 4.

The clip can double as a handle and the raised controls are easy to use. Pairing with my iPhone XR was quick and smooth and auto connects easily to my phone when powered on. I played a movie and there was no lag with the voices.

The price could be at least $10 less but using an Amazon gift card reduced the cost. I purchased the black because the gray that I really wanted was $10 more. I decided to also purchase a silicone cover that has built-in “feet” that acts as a stand (see photo).

Since I just received the speaker, I can’t review the battery life yet. If I can, i will edit the review.

As for Bluetooth distance, it is better than expected. I tested it from 2 rooms away with several walls blocking the connection (approximately 60 feet away) and there was no hesitation with the connection. The music played smoothly.

So far, I am happy the JBL 4 and hope the battery life will be equally as impressive.

This will be my new travel and beach speaker for sure.

I researched shower speakers for weeks before picking these. Perfect waterproof, easy to use speaker. It was recommended by everyone within the medium price range. I’m not an audiophile, but I read several reviews written by audiophiles before picking this one. The sound is great to me, but admittedly, I don’t have the ear to tell otherwise. The battery is crazy long lasting. I rarely have to charge it. I would estimate that I use it for about an hour a week and have charged it twice since I bought it (months ago). And not because it died. Just because I was like hey, maybe I should charge this thing? Bluetooth is super easy to set up and connect in day to day use. Buttons are easy to use in the shower. The sound quality and volume are so good, I use it anywhere I want to play music or podcasts now. I’m sold on the brand now. The clip is also super convenient. I’m so glad I bought this.

We purchased this product for an upcoming vacation trip. It got delivered on May 8th, 2021, however we did not unpack/open the box until May 16th (our first day of vacation)…right out of the box, it seemed like a great purchase, it was exactly what we we looking for and I loved the clip! However, I did find it strange that it’s supposed to be waterproof/dust proof but the charging port had no cover to it? But…We charged it and it’s first charge went great, and we were excited to use it! We used it for the first time on May 17th, we absolutely loved it, the sound quality was great and we were really impressed with how much ‘boom’ came out of this little thing! So, all was great…we were on vacation for 5 days but only used it (the 17th, 18th, and 19th) Once back home, it stay packed in all of our vacation gear (inside AC) until I pulled it out on Monday May 32st (Memorial Day) for our family to use while we were outside celebrating Memorial Day and that’s when I discovered that it was falling apart, literally FALLING APART) but how? It was only used 3 DAYS and sat on a coffee table in our villa and then was carried IN a bag…I didn’t even use the CLIP, that I thought was so cool and a great idea! So all in all…I am NOT happy with this purchase, it was not exactly cheap and we got THREE days out of this product and now it’s unusable because of it pulling apart like it is, the sound quality is awful and I won’t be using it because I feel uncomfortable with using a broken open electronic device, it doesn’t seem safe to charge or use in the state that it’s in! I’m not sure if Amazon will take it back since it has been unboxed and, of course, I told my husband I wanted to keep the box ‘just in case’ but it ‘didn’t hear me’ and threw it away while we were on vacation the day after I opened it! VERY unhappy customer here…I did purchase the warranty so I guess I will have to explore my options but wanted to make sure I came here first since summer is here and I wanted to let others know…

Good Sound Quality but Terrible Construction! DO NOT BUY!

By Amber Sunshine Dash on June 4, 2021
We purchased this product for an upcoming vacation trip. It got delivered on May 8th, 2021, however we did not unpack/open the box until May 16th (our first day of vacation)…right out of the box, it seemed like a great purchase, it was exactly what we we looking for and I loved the clip! However, I did find it strange that it’s supposed to be waterproof/dust proof but the charging port had no cover to it? But…We charged it and it’s first charge went great, and we were excited to use it! The speaker is great except the power button design – its in a bad location and not recessed so it gets accidentally pressed all the time. This is extremely annoying and makes the speaker almost useless in some cases where it moves around a lot as it keeps turning off. The Clip 3 never had this problem, but its sound quality is no where close to as good as the Clip 4.

I bought this speaker to use in the shower because I recently moved and my new bathroom has a glass shower door which means I can’t hear anything from a speaker if it’s outside of the shower. So far it’s been exactly what I needed.

I love that you can hang it or clip it to things. I used a suction cup hook to hang it lower to the floor (to prevent an injury in case it falls). The sound is still great, even from below.

The battery has a long life, too. I’ve had it for about two months and only had to charge it once so far.

    And yes, it is waterproof!

Pretty darn happy I bought this speaker. I love to go on bike rides/ roller blading and I needed some music to accompany me. This speaker is perfect! It has a clip that I can hook around the loops on my pants or even my backpack so it can be hands free. The sound is amazing and the battery life is really good.

Definitely recommend this speaker if you’re looking for something small/ portable / good looking and loud! I’m happy with my purchase.

It’s got great sound- even at higher volumes it still has a balanced quality, portability is awesome, but the battery life is really, really disappointing. What is the point of having something you can take with you anywhere on your outdoor adventures carefree without a thought… only to run out of music a few hours into your activity? What. Is. The. Point.

There is no point. There’s no point to having something this portable and adventure-hardy with such little stamina. Imagine if you had a mountain bike who’s tires had to be pumped up every couple hours by design? Or a trail horse that would only ride for a couple hours tops before needing to go home?

Did I get a defective one? Do these actually last as long as they claim to for anyone else? First, fifth, 15th time using it and it’s the same every time.

Super bummed. Pretty sure I’m out of the return window but if I’m not I’m probably gonna send it back for something else.

So happy with the item I purchased a Camo Case and other items for it.
    ADVICE #1.
*Recently I ordered a separate USB-C type cord for charging since the charging cord is so short (+ a small fanny & backpack with the same design).
If purchasing an added cord, Make sure it’s a USB C-Type (for the JBL Clip 4, NOT THE FLIP… I made that mistake.)
    Advice #2
I ALSO PURCHASED a (Camouflage) Case, Fanny & backpack for the Clip 4 TO PROTECT IT FROM: damage or theft (all in the same camo design). This way I had where to clip the CLIP 4 plus carry a larger charging cord, my wallet, phone, and anything else without stuffing my pockets. It’s a Clip Traveling Speaker so you need to clip it onto something when on the go; Makes sense, right? Great for hiking, camping, or anything else.

Need to Protect this speaker since they’re so expensive. With that in mind, this design is fun to accessorize. Give it a limited edition look.
    Enjoy. 🙂

Great battery, and works well. But it is not as loud as the older version and I keep hitting either the power button or the play/pause button by accident when it is clipped to my safety vest.
Also, the logo and buttons icons are glued on to the surface and fall off after a while.

Not my first portable JBL speaker, but it is my first of the Clip series. Very impressed with the bass coming from such a small speaker. The clarity in acoustics are what I come to expect from JBL. The built in carabiner allows you to place the speaker anywhere that has an opening to clip on to. Overall a great speaker. If you’re looking for the perfect portable on the go everywhere speaker, this is the one!

It’s a nice looking portable little speaker. However, the sound quality is not great. I should’ve returned it or swapped to try another but missed the return window (my own fault). For music it’s just okay and for things like podcasts the base is to high so a lot of times men’s voices get washed out from the base making it hard to listen to. Maybe we just got a bad speaker or something but we’re going to purchase something else to try.

  35. AMcDonald (verified owner)

I love the design of this speaker… I still need to put it to more use but so far I’m impressed by the sound quality. The bass is better than I was expecting and the battery life seems to last quite a while.

That being said, it is a little overpriced in my opinion. There are other speakers with similar or better sound quality that cost less. I just really like the size and look of this one.

  36. Lili J (verified owner)

Battery life is about 8 hours, extremely frustrating! I experienced this with 2 of them, both from JBL packaged as new and the initial charge was done properly. It seems that if it occurred on both of them that it wasn’t a one off but more common.

I had the opportunity to experience it with the second one because my first one had an issue where the speaker started buzzing. The battery life was also about 8 hours (after a few weeks of use). Amazon helped me (thank you, Amazon) get JBL to exchange it for another. The second one didn’t have the buzzing sound in the speaker but most certainly has an extremely annoyiny short battery life. I regret buying this.

  37. Bob O (verified owner)

Very good quality sound, the bass is incredibly boomy for something this size. I highly recommend this speaker if you are looking for something conveniently small and portable, with great sound. There is not a better speaker made that is this small and easily transportable. Clip is helpful and helps hang speaker anywhere. Battery life could be longer but not an issue.

  38. Tater (verified owner)

This speaker is nothing but bass. The only way to listen this speaker is to use an equalizer app to attenuate all of the bottom end. I have $15 speakers that relatively blow it away. Pass on this one.

  39. KarenNotKaren (verified owner)

Wow. Didn’t expect this. I’ve numerous BT speakers, all have their strengths and weaknesses. This is a short review, so to sum up: JBL did a nice job with this. Of course, no speaker this small will give you 20-20k, but this is the best of the small units that gives you good compromise: has good bass, lower-mids a bit muddy, but really shines in the upper-mids and especially vocal definition. First tune I played was Diana Krall, live in Paris. The quartet sounded fine, nice detail on the guitar solo, drums and bass nice, but when Diana starts singing I had to sit up: sounded live in my room! Your mileage may vary, but this one’s a keeper. And to the reviewer that stated “why do they have to put JBL on the speaker?!”, hey that’s called BRANDING and it’s on every product, from cookies to cars, that you buy. The letters on the speaker don’t distract from the sound, it only classes it up! Great little speaker, and I think it’s cool-looking!

  40. Viva Zapatos! (verified owner)

Good things come in small packages. This cute little speaker has both an ease of portability and a great booming sound going for it. I would recommend buying the cover—that way it can stand and be used on a flat surface. Love it!

We take it to the lake. Our boat has a radio, but… We have a 4 person tube we pull behind the boat & now the riders can have music to. We are able to leave the phone in the boat so it is safe and clip the JBL to the tube handle so we don’t loose it. It has work perfectly. We also use it at the sandbar while splashing around. The wide clip is great because it can be clipped to so many things.

  42. Dante (verified owner)

This was a great size for what I was looking for. Clips well to my backpack, hammock, and most other things I can find. It’s saved at least one party so far as well; but not a go-to for a loud group setting speaker. My one request is that for the camo color they would differentiate the color of the buttons more. It’s green on green camo background so it’s very tough to see. Maybe they could have used the same orange that’s part of the clip

  43. Jujubeme916! (verified owner)

I was a lil skeptical at first because my boyfriend has a JBL flip 4 and we use it often on bike rides and basically anywhere we are, we love music so quality is a MUST! So when the Flip stopped working I had to look for another source but couldn’t afford another Flip 4 much less the upgraded version. I saw the JBL clip’s upgraded version and saved itto possibly find a better on. But compared to the over 2000 reviews almost at 4-5 stars there was none
In the same price range. I’m so happy with my purchase & didn’t go with anything cheaper! It is not a Flip4 but dammed near the same quality! This Lil guy packs a punch that doesn’t distort my music and loud enough for bike rides that the both of us can hear it even with distance between us & the convenience of the clip on is so much easier to ride with! I want another one!

  44. Shutterbug (verified owner)

JBL’s speaker products are usually quite good if you are willing to pay the price. This speaker however doesn’t sound so great even considering size. Usually small speakers tent to be too bright. This is the opposite. Though not a boomer, it is pretty strong in the bass for it’s size. But using an eq to emphasize the mid-upper range only helps a little. You cannot get a balanced spectrum. If this were a $30 speaker that would be no big deal, but for #70 and the JBL name, it is a let down. It can go quite loud for it’s size though.

  45. SteshaHeats (verified owner)

Love this little speaker! I put a rubber case sleeve on it (purchased from Amazon) and have dropped it once or twice accidentally, and it had great durability. I wanted a good speaker for the beach/hotel room when traveling, I was worried when it came and was so small, but the sound is amazing. I could never have it on full volume or I think I’d have noise complaints from others! The material is durable, the clip is wide enough to fit on any bag I own, I would definitely buy this again. The color choices are a plus, as well as the size for durability. This would fit in any beach or tote bag, but if you’re running short on room, it clips easily to anything! The battery lasted for hours, I never ran out of battery, after two days of usage I proactively charged it for an hour or so, I have used it for at least an hour 3 times since and no battery issue whatsoever. Great purchase, sound, and portability for the price!!

  46. Monique Thompson (verified owner)

Great for working out, bike riding, in the shower, on the beach & taking on vacations to listen in the hotel or by the pool.
Just keep In Mind the higher you turn up the volume the less battery time you have , the only down fall. But product is definitely great for little things & places that you go to.

  47. leroy sanchez (verified owner)

Great looking and sounding speaker! Excellent quality for the price! I use this speaker everyday at least 6 hours without any problems. Good battery charge and battery does last a long while before needing to be charged. A must have for that one that loves to hear music throughout the day.

I’ve had the clip 2 in the past and IMO, it was much better. The carabiner was better and the power button was designed better, and it had an overall nicer look to it. This model is big and clunky with a large somewhat annoying carabiner, however, the biggest design flaw, and the only part that really knocks off two stars for me at this price, is the power button. If you are using this speaker while it is in any sort of motion, the chances that a bump will cause you to quickly hit the power button on the side of it are pretty high. All it needs is the slightest touch to turn it on or off. Sliding around on my passenger seat while I’m going somewhere? Check. On my tool belt for some work tunes? Double check. It’s alright if it doesn’t need to be used as a super portable speaker, but in that case I’d probably get something that has better sound quality. I thought it might sound better that the clip 2 but it sounds the same, possibly slightly worse. But during a work day, I will bump the button accidentally several times and accidentally turning it on and off. I’m surprised a portable speaker has such a major design flaw, but I wouldn’t purchase again or recommend this model for that reason. Sorry jbl, missed the mark on this one IMO.

  49. Timbo Dan (verified owner)

This speaker has alot of potential, I’ve used it for a few days now. I charged it fully the day I received it so I can listen to music while I clean my house. It was working fine for a couple hours. Then it was like the battery was giving a low signal??? I thought it was good for 10 hours on a single charge? It might be just my unit but I’m trying it again and charging it. Maybe it was just a error idk.

This is one of my favorite surprise gifts from my Hub! Tired of me blowing my phone speakers out while listening to audio books, comedians, teachings, etc., he thought if I clipped this to my shirt, he could save my new phone from needing to be turned up so loud… It ended up a little bigger than he expected, but I still love it! I generally clip it to a belt loop but have clipped it to my shirt a few times too. I carry it with me everywhere! Doing laundry, gardening, taking the dog for a walk, dishes – I’ve even taken it in the shower with me! Hands down, it’s my favorite new gadget!

I was looking for a small, portable speaker that really had great sound quality. And this was it! Sound quality is impressive coming from the small speaker. Easy to charge, easy to connect via Bluetooth. Battery lasts all day. I had it playing for hours and it kept going strong. Really happy with it!

  52. Mur (verified owner)

Compact, big sound and convenient. I hang it on my chair when on the balcony, on my chair when at the beach, on my bag at the gym, on the towel rack when chilling to jazz in the bath. No matter where I am, the convenience of the clip and the booming sound fits!

  53. Tyler Durden (verified owner)

To simply put it the Bluetooth speaker sounds really good. But the biggest problem is the defect in the battery life, not mater how long you charge it it will not hold a charge. It even just cut off randomly at times. I just put in a request to have a new sent to me, note that my first one out the box had this battery issue and just randomly cutting off.

Mini wifi speakers come and go, so I’m just going to say this amplifies streamed movies/podcasts well enough. The caliper hook thingy comes in handy. I use this daily, charging nightly, so we’ll see how long the battery lasts. Not expensive, works well, connects readily via bluetooth to whatever Apple device I’m using, so just what I need and want.

  55. Dan (verified owner)

I first got the JBL Clip 3 for $50 and it was barely better than the $20 shower speakers you can find here on Amazon. There was absolutely no bass to it and the volume left a lot to be desired. For $20 more, the Clip 4 is a HUGE improvement. It has better sound quality, better volume, and good bass for being such a small device. I don’t know what people are talking about saying there’s too much bass, the bass is at a good level, compared to ZERO bass in the Clip 3.

  56. JP Johnson (verified owner)

This is the best speaker I have found yet to be my bear bell while hiking. I have music or a podcast playing to make sure wildlife know I’m around. Sound quality is similar to my wonderboom speaker but this is half the weight. The controls are amazing. Being able to skip songs with gloves on is a safety feature because we hike in extreme cold. Because the buttons are so easy to find, if you have this clipped to your backpack and you run, the bouncing around can sometimes press the buttons against the bag and accidentally turn it off or start Bluetooth pairing. This is an amazing little speaker.

So, just a quick bit of information about me before I go on with my review: I like to take showers listening to podcasts/youtube videos. As smartphones became more water resistant, I’ve been just bringing them into the shower but as anyone would tell you, that’s not best practice (and sound becomes muffled once it gets wet), so I bought this.

In summary, it works (at least better than bringing your phone with you). Problem is, very same bass that makes it sounds very nice for music, makes voices sound a little bad sometimes. Nothing major, you miss no more than you would expect to if you’re listening to something while taking a shower. In my opinion, still better than to have an speaker on the bathroom sink.

  58. Wrin (verified owner)

I very faithfully used the original JBL clip for 5+ years until the battery finally quit on me, so I stayed loyal to the brand and upgraded to the 4. Gotta say, I’m disappointed to see how limited their improvements have been for this model in all these years.

First – there are some hardware quality issues. The silicone strips on the back have peeled off one by one and the entire front cover of the clip keeps popping off. I’ve only had this for 6 months, and these issues started happening like 2 months ago.

The sound is still great – I’m not an audio expert by any means but it can get very loud and I think it has really decent bass for the price point.

Then there’s a few functionality issues, like you can’t tell battery life until it dies on you. I also can’t hear phone notifications when it’s connected to my phone, which is very annoying. Lastly, one minor complaint; it plays an obnoxious electric guitar noise when you turn on/off, lol.

  59. Ryan DEE (verified owner)

3 stars for being able to clip it to my belt loop or bag for ease of use and carry, but the sound can leave a little to be desired depending on what you are used to and type of music you listen to. It is doable for most activities so I’m not going to trash it, but I believe there is better sound quality out there at the price point. Unfortunately, the other options may not have the clip. I’ll probably drag along my JBL 4 more often; with the strap to carry on my shoulders.

  60. Heather King (verified owner)

Previously owned the clip2 & 3. Overall the sound quality is much better and much louder. The oversized clip is great to attach to anything. The speaker feels a bit heavier than previous versions which isn’t a big issue given the increased sound. Only issue is in the placement of the power button….when clipping in or out or just handling the speaker, its too easy to accidentally push the power or bluetooth buttons which can shut your sound off by accident.

  16. A Hi! There are a few differences.. the 4 has a new design and is waterproof. Also, JBL added a little more power to the Clip 4. 5w vs. 3.3w which gives the 4 a little more sound. Those are the biggest differences…. Well besides the 4 costing more. Hope this helps

  20. A Our JBL Clip 4 is rated IP67 which makes it more waterproof, but we do not recommend taking it to a sauna as it's not resistant to moisture, and condensation may affect the internal controls.
  21. A Thanks for your question. There is no option for a firmware update for end-users.
  22. A Our JBL Clip 4 doesn't have an option to turn off the LED indicator. It shows the user if it needs to be charged when it's flashing red and solid red when it's being charged. A white light is always lit when it's on and have enough battery power.

  24. A The JBL Clip 4 has an audio output power of 5W which is loud enough if you are using it in a room or office. However, for bike riding, since you are on the street there could be loud noise on the environment which means that you may have to increase the volume.
  25. A In Short, the answer is tightly or no...The Clip actually opens INTO the speaker, instead of resting over it. That's a plus.It can open up to 3/4 of an inch, (with about an inch space (rounded off) before closing. For the purpose of this question, I tried from my Towel Rack (and Shower Curtain Pole), and measured it. The pole is 3/4 of an inch squared. It did not close. [If the pole were round (in circumference width), possibly...]I actually take mine right into the shower, hanging from a soap basket. If a Curtain Pole or Towel Rack your best option, you can be creative and hang it from a "Loop", Curtain Ring, or Carabiner Clip so it's easier to clip with ease.
